Ok, so last Thursday I went swing dancing. I had been to this place before and it is actually a really nice thing they have got going on. However, last Thursday I really noticed something that shocked me. Almost everybody is doing East coast swing and nobody is doing Lindy hop. Now this might not seem like a big deal to somebody who has never done it, but it confused me very much.
Why you may ask?
Well mainly because East coast is in 3/4 or 6/8 time (they are very similar, often the same thing) and Lindy is done in 4/4 time, and in all the times that I have gone there I have never heard them play a song that wasn't in 4/4. I can understand how some of the really good dancers can cross over time, but I have no idea how the others do it. Do they not pay attention to the music? Do they not understand time signature? Am I just really bad at East coast? Or maybe I'm just too stubborn with time because of my drumming. But whatever it is,
It don't mean a thing (If you aint got that swing)...
